The Hospital Epidemiological Surveillance Unit (UVEH) is in charge of the prevention of nosocomial infections in patients, families, and visitors during the time of hospitalization, as well for protecting our staff, preventing them from acquiring infections as a result of exposure in the workplace.

The UVEH has the support of a Committee for the analysis of epidemiological profiles and trends for early identification, prevention, studies, and proper control of infectious diseases typified in this area, which is of required notification.

In adherence to Mexican standards on health, the UVEH is responsible for directing the policies and procedures for preventing nosocomial infections; among its activities, it oversees:

  • The health of its staff in relation to the prevention of infections through vaccination.
  • Continuous Education in prevention matters to reduce risks.
  • Department of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control in different areas of care.
  • The preparation, promotion, and control of the Hand-washing Program.
  • The implementation and classification of RPBI.
  • The technical evaluation and proper use of antiseptics and disinfectants.
  • Monitoring of intravenous therapy.
  • Ensuring the flow of epidemiological information.
  • The monitoring and evaluation of epidemiological monitoring activities.
